Connecting the Global IP Community with Vietnam’s Evolving IP Landscape

From 02–06 May 2026, a delegation of three representatives from INVENMARK IP Law (Vietnam) attended the INTA Annual Meeting 2026 in London, United Kingdom, one of the world’s leading annual events in the field of intellectual property (IP).

Held at Excel London, this year’s conference brought together more than 10,000 IP professionals, attorneys, brand owners, multinational corporations, and IP organizations from over 180 countries and territories. In an era where artificial intelligence (AI), cross-border e-commerce, and the digital economy are reshaping the global IP landscape, INTA has evolved beyond a traditional networking event into an important platform reflecting legal developments, enforcement practices, and emerging challenges facing businesses worldwide.

Vietnam Is Emerging as a Dynamic IP Market in Southeast Asia

One of the key observations during INTA 2026 was the growing international interest in the Vietnamese market.

Vietnam is increasingly being recognized as one of Southeast Asia’s most dynamic IP markets, driven by growing foreign investment, expanding e-commerce activities, increasing trademark filings, and rising demand for IP enforcement. Alongside this growth comes an increasing need for updates on legal developments, examination practices, and enforcement mechanisms in Vietnam.
During meetings and professional discussions with law firms, IP representatives, and partners from the United Kingdom, France, the United States, Germany, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Australia, China, India, Chile, Costa Rica, Nepal…, the delegation exchanged views on international IP trends and shared recent developments regarding Vietnam’s IP legal framework effective from 01 April 2026.

Key Updates to Clients on Vietnam’s IP Laws Effective from 01 April 2026
The following developments attracted particular attention from international partners:
  • Adjustments to examination timelines and procedures for patent, industrial design and trademark applications, with significantly shortened processing periods;
  • Updated opposition procedures for patent, industrial design, and trademark applications;
  • Practical changes relating to geographical indications and copyright matters;
  • New regulations concerning administrative appeals and dispute resolution procedures;
  • Certain changes relating to Power of Attorney (POA) requirements;
  • Updated regulations and practices concerning invalidation actions and bad-faith filings;
  • Changes in IP examination and enforcement practices in Vietnam, particularly in the e-commerce environment.
These developments are expected to directly impact filing strategies, enforcement approaches, and dispute resolution practices for many international businesses operating in Vietnam in the coming years.

For many brand owners and international businesses, understanding the latest legal developments and practical procedures in Vietnam not only helps minimize legal risks but also plays an increasingly important role in broader expansion strategies across Southeast Asia.

Through direct exchanges during INTA 2026, the delegation continued to contribute to strengthening connections between the global IP community and Vietnam’s evolving legal environment.

Key Topics Discussed at INTA 2026

One of the most discussed topics at this year’s INTA Meeting was the impact of AI on trademark protection, copyright enforcement, and IP protection in the digital environment. Discussions also focused on bad-faith trademark filings, cross-border IP enforcement, infringements involving AI-generated content, and disputes arising on e-commerce platforms.

One recurring theme throughout many discussions at INTA this year was how rapidly IP issues relating to AI and digital platforms are developing far faster than just a few years ago.
Discussions at INTA 2026 demonstrated that businesses today are no longer dealing only with traditional IP risks. Technological and commercial developments are making IP disputes increasingly complex, cross-border, and difficult to manage. This increasingly requires businesses to develop international IP strategies from the early stages of brand development, rather than focusing solely on registrations in individual jurisdictions.

Building Meaningful International Professional Connections

Throughout the five-day conference, the delegation participated in numerous meetings, professional discussions, and cooperation exchanges with law firms and IP organizations from various jurisdictions.

In addition to staying updated on international legal and enforcement developments, the meetings also provided opportunities to expand professional networks and strengthen capabilities in handling international filings, renewals and maintenance of IP rights in Vietnam, cross-border IP enforcement coordination, and support for businesses expanding into international markets.
For the delegation, the value of INTA lies not only in the number of meetings, but also in the ability to build long-term professional relationships grounded in practical legal understanding, international trends, and the evolving needs of businesses in today’s rapidly changing global environment.

Perspectives from INTA 2026

INTA 2026 highlighted how quickly the global IP landscape is evolving under the influence of AI, digital platforms, and cross-border commerce. Businesses today must not only protect their brands against traditional infringement, but also address online counterfeiting, disputes involving AI-generated content, bad-faith trademark filings, and increasingly sophisticated cross-border IP disputes.

In this environment, staying informed about international developments, understanding enforcement practices across different markets, and developing cross-border protection strategies are becoming essential for businesses operating globally.

INVENMARK IP Law: Connecting Vietnam with the Global IP Community

Participation in the INTA Annual Meeting 2026 reflects ongoing efforts to stay updated on international legal developments, expand professional cooperation, and enhance capabilities in supporting clients on IP matters in Vietnam and across Southeast Asia.

As legal frameworks, technology, and global commerce continue to evolve, staying connected to international developments and understanding practical enforcement trends across jurisdictions are becoming increasingly important for businesses seeking to protect their intellectual property assets and brand value effectively.
